Okay, so I'm studying Spanish and we are at the point where we are focusing on Preterite Subjunctive/Indicative and Imperfect Subjunctive/Indicative.
I have a clear understanding of the difference between Preterite and Imperfect (Completed/single past action vs ongoing/repeated past action) I have a clear understanding of the difference between Subjunctive and Indicative (doubt vs certainty). I also understand the conjugations of plain old imperfect and preterite.
The struggle I am facing right now is what are the conjugations for each respective coupling (i.e. imperfect subjunctive, preterite subjunctive, preterite indicative, imperfect indicative). What are the differences between these four labels and how can I tell them apart in a sentence? Do I initially look for the clues leading towards subjective/indicative use first, or do I look for the preterite/imperfect clues first?
I know this is a lot to take in, but there's no simple way of wording it without sounding like I know absolutely nothing of what I'm talking about...
Gracias!
