Jul 26 - Imperfect subjunctive tense--when to use "-era" vs. "-ese"

I never know which imperfect subjunctive tense form to use. I have heard the "-era" form used more in speech and seen the "-ese" in literature. Are there any specific rules for when a particular form should be used?
