Jan 23 - Use of "unfortunately" in Spanish

So, I looked for a translation of "unfortunately" in Spanish and, apparently, its desafortunadamente. Question: Is this word actually used much in Spanish, or rather, is there a more coloquial way of conveying the same meaning? E.g. would it be common so say:

Desafortunadamente, no puedo ir mañana...

or is there a more coloquial way of saying this?
