Apr 05 - When to take your first official exam

Hola I just started learning Spanish using this site and fluencia. I take a lesson everyday. Follow along audio recordings in Spanish although I understand little. I changed most of my social media settings to Spanish and at least once a month I watch films and clips ( about 5 each 40 minutes) with no subtitles in Spanish. I do find I follow the films pretty well. I've been doing this consistently for 2 months. Finally I take notes which I review every month or fortnight because of a harsh work schedule. At this rate After how long should I take my first exam? Also do I need to enroll in an official college before I even think about DECE?

Apr 05 - The Word "Prestado"

I am currently reading a book. And in the book there is a sentence:

-Pediremos prestado o... algo -dijo Papá, poniendo su brazo alrededor de los hombros de Mamá.

From what i understand the father was referring to money that he will have to borrow to take his son to the hospital. How would you translate what he said directly. To me the literal translation even though it makes no sense would be "We will ask, borrowed or... something". Is this correct ? Wouldn't it make more sense to be "We will ask, borrow, or something" ? I believe prestado is in the past tense.

****On a side note*** According to Spanishdict.com dictionary, this adjective means 'borrowed, lent'. For example, 'he tenido que pedir dinero prestado para poder dártelo a ti' / 'I have had to ask for borrowed money so that I can give it to you.'. Prestado.

In the English translation why wasn't "I can" conjugated ?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

There is a problem, that confuses me.

Nada and Nada

The reason is because nada means, nothing. But if you were to conjugate the verb nadar (to swim) and make it the nada conjugation... how could you tell the difference?

Just add él, ella, or usted in front of it to make it the verb?

Hi, everyone!

I haven't been on here lately because this is the busiest time of the year for the company I work for, but I've missed you all!

I was hoping someone could help me out with a translation of the simple phrase "Happy Easter".

In high school Spanish class, we always learned it as "Feliz Pascua", but after reading some threads around the internet concerning the phrase, I've discovered it's not really so simple of a translation!

Here are some of the options I've found:

  • Feliz pascua
  • Felices pascuas
  • Feliz semana santa

Can someone shed some light on which phrase they've heard used more frequently and in which dialect/region?

Thank you smile

Alyssa

I wonder how to use Demonstrative Adjective when asking question. for example: If I want to know what something is, I will say 'What's this?' but when i translate it into Spanish i'll get problem because 'this' in Spanish is este/esta and this problem stops me because i don't know if it feminine or masculine. if i didn't know 'table' i would ask 'question what is that?' and if someone knew they'd answer me 'that's a table' but in Spanish i don't know the word 'table' in Spanish surely i don't know if it fem. or masc. too how would i question? ¿que es este? or ¿que es esta? i know this question is so confusing and seems no clear. i can feel it (haha) but i hope you guys understand what i'm trying to say.
