I am a Spanish student right now. I would love to some day become fluent because I have friends that only speak Spanish so it's hard. But I was wondering how many years (for the people that have English as their first language) of Spanish did it take to become fluent?

Our good friend, Pacofinkler, is having an outpatient surgery today. It's nothing serious, but if he doesn't have the surgery, he could develop infections in his lungs. He describes the surgery as a "monserga" which means "pain in the butt".

He endured the lung surgery about a year ago, so he is allowing them "to work him over¨ and clear his sinuses so the infections do not go south into his lungs. Even if you don't know him very well, he'll appreciate your well wishes and thoughts.

Y la tercera canción, "Tango to Evora".

Gracias por su atención.

Also, I wanna add after Tango to evora,

"and last, "Oye" in spanish :3

Okay, I'm currently in lv1:Unit 2 of Rosettta stone, and I'm having some trouble with a word.

The sentence says, "El hombre está debajo del carro". That should mean The man is underneath the car right?

So whats the del after it for?

Another one would be "Los niños están debajo de la cama" That would mean "The boys are underneath the bed"

So whats the de for?

Thanks in advance

I have a question about a sentence from the 500 Verbs game:

Should there be the direct object pronoun 'lo' added before the verb here?

No reparan a Humpty Dumpty. - They don't fix Humpty Dumpty.

Should it be...?:

No lo reparan a Humpty Dumpty. - They don't fix Humpty Dumpty.

¿Me quieres hablar con el? "Do you want to talk to me with him?"

¿Quieres hablar con el y conmigo? "Do you want to talk to me with him?

Te necessito hablar con el. "I need to talk to you with him" IS this right to say also?

I asked a friend of mine and he said that the first sentence is correct but it is not commonly used compared to the latter. Anyway, is it safe to use the first one? Is it understandable? Are both correct and carry the same meaning?

Also, when there are two consecutive verbs, does the last verb take the object? For example quieres hablar. Does hablar take the object "me"?

Thanks.

Vi un anuncio de pasta de dientes en este sitio web que tenía un botón llamado "conoce más". ¿Eso es correcto? Si es así, ¿por qué? Yo hubiera dicho algo así como "sabe más" o "aprender más".

(I saw an ad for toothpaste on this website that had a button called "conoce más". Is that correct? If so, why? I would have said something like "sabe más" or "aprender más").

On another Spanish language learning website, I've been taught to use "estar"with "muerto," as in "Juan está muerto." I've always thought of death as a permanent condition--certainly one lasting more than two or three weeks. Can someone enlighten me as to the reason for the use of "estar" with this adjective?

¿Cuándo debe decir "vaya con Dios"? ¿Es usualmente se usa con un "adios", sí? Mi pregunta es, ¿cuándo/a quién dice esto? ¿Puedes hacer un ejemplo para mi? Estoy confudada sobre que situaciónes esto dicho se usa. Por ejemplo, si salgo la casa de mi amigo o familia, ¿Puedo decir "vaya con Dios?"

Okay, in case my Spanish was so bad that it was incomprehensible: When should you say "Vaya con Dios?"" Isn't it usually used as a farewell? My question is, when/ to whom do you say this? Can you give me an example? I am confused about what situations this saying is used in. For example, if I leave my friend or family's house, can I say "Vaya con Dios?"

Thanks everybody!

Jul 27 - Why does Paralee call all accents tildes?

Paralee always talks about tildes, rather than accents, even when it is an acute accent, rather than a tilde. Is that because tilde means any type of accent in Spanish?
