Jun 02 - Is it correct to use the imperfect subjunctive after que and the conditional tense
I was told that because the conditional is considered a past tense that we need to use the imperfect subjunctive after que and a trigger verb for the subjunctive
Here are some examples: yo peferiría que estudiaras medicina en la universidad Yo insistiría que no hicieras trampa pero sé que no vas a escucharme
Thank you for your help
Jun 02 - Can someone help me with indirect questions?
I have some questions to go direct to indirect but do not understand how someone can help me. Thank you.
The instruccions: Rewrite as indirect quesionts, using the words in bold.
Can I help you with anything? would / you
Can I check my e-mails on your laptop? do / mind
Dou you want to eat out with us tomorrow night? wondering / if
Does Julio have a driver's license? know / whether
Can you look after my dog for a few minutes? would / mind
Are you free to come over and fix my computer tomorrow night? could / you
The answers I think it would be this:
- Would you like me to help you with anything?
- Do you mind me if check my e-mails on your computer?
- I was wondering if want you to eat out with us tomorrow night?
- You know whether julio did have a driver's license?
- Would you mind if you look after my dog for a few minutes?
- Coul you tell me if you are free to come over and fix my computer tomorrow night?
Thanks a lot, I was trying but I can't to do this.

Jun 03 - le priva al hombre de su libertad' / 'The man was deprived of his liberty'
le priva al hombre de su libertad' / 'The man was deprived of his liberty'.
Privar.
Hello friends,
I saw this sentence example on SD and there seems to he some .. error (according to me) ..
According to me it should either be "se privó el hombre de su libertad" The man was deprived of his liberty ( the use of passive "se" with preterito .. to tally exactly with the english version) ..
Or privaron el hombre de su libertad ( said in active voice instead of passive) ..
Or lo privaron de su libertad ( same sentence using a DOP)..
Now if we look at the original sentence, neither does it tally with english translation and nor does it make a proper grammatical structure on its own ... (in my opinion)
Privar is a transitive verb and the action is passing over directly to the direct object "el hombre" and I don't see any other indirect object for whom or to whom the action is being done .. so why "le" .....
well I can make it correct just by replacimg the IDOP "le" with the subject pronoun "él" and say "él priva al hombre de su libertad " ,, well now it is grammatically correct but it still doesn't tally with the English version .. because this would translate to "he deprives the man of his liberty"(present tense, active voice) and not "the man was deprived of his liberty (past tense, passive voice)...
As I brought this issue forth in the past too ,, and the same was also verified by one of our native friends here .. (about other erroneous sentences) ..
I Humbly request the native friends and the ones at the advanced level to verify my sentences (that I have mentioned above) and do a comparison with the original and if other people also think that this is an error then I would report it to the SD team, as such errors can realy confuse the beginners trying to get a handle over the basics (just an attempt to make it a better learning arena for all of us hehe )
Regards, Jimmy
Jun 03 - No se ve .......
Por la noche, otros son los clientes. No se ve a gente elegante ni estresada por comer rápido, sino a guardias de seguridad, policías, enfermeras, médicos y comensales que salen de una obra de teatro o del cine y no tienen otro lugar para cenar.
What does it mean "No se ve"
Thank you!
Jun 03 - Demás está decirlo... Who would you say in English?
I'm having a conversation with a coworker and she's complaining that some parents of her students don't bring napkins when they bring cupcakes to celebrate their child's birthday at school. I'm telling her that of course they have to bring it, you shouln't even ask if they can bring that. Is obvious. Well my brain works better in Spanish so I want to tell her "pues claro que tienen que traer servilletas, demás está decirlo!" How would you translate this phrase?! Thank you!!

Jun 03 - Mi carta en Inglés. Por favor, me gustaría que me la corrigieran. Gracias.
Como ejercicio para clase de inglés, tengo que redactar una carta,. El ejercicio consiste en que tengo que constestar a a un amigo, amigo que quiere viajar durante un año por mi país, y me pide consejo sobre que ciudades visitar y donde trabajar. Le gustaría pasar un año.
Esta sería mi propuesta de carta. Gracias de antemano.
Dear Jo. I have just received your letter. It is high time you came around to visit me. I am glad hearing you coming here to fill a gap year. I´m sure you will not regret about that. Let me give a piece of advice.
Firstly, As you say it is a good idea spending some time knowing the most important cities of the country. I suggest visiting cities of the south of Spain such as Córdoba, Granada, Málaga as well as Seville, where I live. However in the northern are gorgeous cities among mountains as well where you can wander through.
Secondly, about the job. The life here is far cheaper than in your country so Take it easy , and relax. Although there are high rates of unemployment in Spain it is likely to find a job as English teacher very soon. If I were you I would look for job in a village, not only for the commutes , which are shorter, but also for the peace and for being quiet.
I regret not studying more this year, If I had studied more during the course I would be traveling with you.
I looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely. xxxxx
