Feb 05 - Querer in the Preterite: Very confused!!!?

I have read many articles and watched many videos that explain the meaning of "querer" in the Preterite, and I am hearing many different answers.

This source says that "querer" in the Preterite (quise/quisiste/quiso/quisimos/quisieron) means "wished to...": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmfYKxLfZwk

This source says that "querer" in the Preterite means "Wanted to (and did).": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnh_SOEHV-I

This source says that "querer" in the Preterite means "Tried/Refused": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtkVKn_O9T4

I have also been told by some Spanish teachers that "querer" in the Preterite can sometimes mean "wanted" if a time frame is stated. For example: "I wanted it for a second." = "Lo quise por un segundo."

Can someone clarify this for me? Are all these scenarios possible depending on context?

Hey! I'm having trouble with reflexive verbs and distinguishing between the following:

So when the ending is el carro, would the beginning be Lavo or Me lavo. ...los dientes- Cepillo or Me cepillo ...al niño- Acuesto or Me acuesto ...a un amigo- Llamo or Me llamo ...Roberto- Llama or Se llama

Don't mind capitalization or punctuation. I'm lazy.

es bueno dormir al menos ocho horas al dia. Yo duermo asta ocho y media horas cada noche

debes hacer ejercicio casi cada dia. Yo corro una milla con mis amigos en la clase de educacion fisica

es importante comer vegetales y frutas en siempre comida. yo puedo como manzanas y platanos o lechuga y tomates

es saludable beber sobre ocho vasos de agua. Yo siempre tengo un botela de agua con mi cada dia

no es bueno sentarser para horas. Cuando yo veo a la tele o juego videojuegos para mas que dos horas yo camino afuero

Para mantener la salud, no debes comer mucho dulces todo los dias. Yo como dulces ocasionalmente pero dulces es muy sabrosos

Hola! I am travelling in South America and try to learn spanish meanwhile. Sometimes I see signs that says Baño and sometimes Baños. When should I use the plural form and when the singular form? Muchas gracias and sorry for my broken english smile

Can someone explain why "lo vuestro" is informal plural in this statement: "¿Por qué perdéis lo vuestro?"

The quiz question was ¿Por qué perdéis (what is yours?)

What is the difference between 2nd person plural (vosotros) and 2nd person plural (ustedes?)

¿Quién conoce esta palabra: "mabinga"? Tengo amigo cubano que la mencionó el otro día durante una conversación sobre la comida. Me explicó que es carne seca de caballo. Se me ocurrió "tasajo"y dijo que sí, sino que es específicamente la carne de caballo. La busqué en varios diccionarios y solo me salió "estiércol" o "tabaco de mala calidad' (En Cuba). Este amigo es de Holguín y de pocas letras.

El tasajo para mí es cualquier carne seca. Aquí, en el SD, parece ser solo la carne seca de res.

¿Qué es "mabinga"? ¿Que es "tasajo"?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum & excited to be aboard. I feel like I know a bunch of words & important rules but my ability to form proper sentences is just not there. Being a perfectionist, I plan on learning spanish as close as I can to native fluency.

Anyway, back to the question I like to watch "el chema" and I noticed they say "Ta bien" versus Esta Bien (at least what I hear), are they just saying it so fast that either would be correct or is it a slang version of OK?

This was an explanation of when to use the infinitive and subjunctive when expressing sentiments and opiniones.

En oraciones dependientes de verbos como gustar, interesar, molestar, preocupar, se utiliza infinitivo o subjuntivo.

INFINITIVO: si el sujeto lógico de las dos frases es el mismo.
                  A Rosa no le gusta usar el transporte publico.

SUBJUNTIVO: si el sujeto lógico de las dos frases es diferente.
                  Nos preocupa que haya desastres ecológicos.

I don't understand this, I can't see a second subject in the desastres ecológicos sentence. Can someone explain this to me. I am sure you grammar guys will be able to help me. Cheers, Mick.

I need help with this sentence, I was trying to strengthen my conjugation skills on a practice site and one of the question has me stumped, It's explanation was also really confusing so I thought I'd ask you guys. The question is this...

Qué _____ el profesor que debemos hacer

Which form of the verb Decir which is to speak is correct and why? Would it be Dice, Dice, Decimos, or Dicen,

As I took this practice quiz I chose Decimos but it is wrong, can someone please explain it? Mucho Gracias! smile
