Aug 04 - ¿Qué tiempo hace? What is the weather like where you live?

Hi everybody smile

I am hoping you will share your opinion about the weather with us.

What is the weather like where you live? What do you do when it is good, bad...?

English native speakers: S O L O español

Hispanoparlantes: English O N L Y

In Spain the weather is crazy right now. Suddenly it hails, it is hot like hell or the city is flooded...puff.

Right now it is really hot, even for Madrid. I said it before and will say it again: We have four months of winter....and 8 months of hell!!

This was today, my living room window, about 4PM. What did I do? I watched TV with the air conditioning on, what else could I do, right?

Aug 04 - ¿necrológica o obituario?

I like reading a good obituary. It tells a story and from a language learning point of view contains idioms, humour and some good descriptive words

Last week I read an obituary written by Rosa Montero about a journalist. The first thing I noticed was the phrase:

'Estoy escribiendo esta necrológica porque Malén me lo pidió'

In the UK the only times we see a similar word are in grisly murder reports mentioning necrofillia [extremely rare] or reports of people who have what is described in the red tops as 'the flesh eating disease' and in the broadsheets as ''necrotising fasciitis' so I was aware that necro is Greek to do with death, but I had never seen 'necrológica' before. I also thought I had seen 'notas de necrologia, when I first saw the article but I haven't been able to find it.

Here is the article if you want to read it

El País

I then looked for another one to compare. El Mundo has one which has the word, similar to the English, from Latin 'Obituario'

El Mundo

I looked it all up and found this useful article in Fundeu

Fundeu

Is necrológica and necrologia used in countries other than Spain? Is 'obituario' more usual? Would it be the case that the first use is in more formal settings?

Aug 04 - ...for vegetarian me

I had a wheat tortilla with refried beans and cheddar cheese inside "for vegetarian me". 1 minute in the microwave, and it is done.

I didn't know that structure. Does it mean something like vegetarianizarse? I do not think so, cause she is a vegetarian already. Maybe just comer algo vegetariano, alimentarse como vegetariana que es.

Can you provide more examples like this one?

Completa cada oración usando la voz pasiva. Utiliza el presente del verbo ser y el participio pasado de los verbos entre paréntesis.

I have put my answers in bold. I am positive about my answers except #2,3 and 6, which I'm not entirely sure if they are correct.

1) El concierto es organizado (organizar) por un grupo de la comunidad.

2) Los políticos corruptos son criticado (criticar) por la gente.

3) Todos los pasajeros son llevado (llevar) a una oficina por los oficiales de aduana.

4) El alcalde es elegido (elegir) por el pueblo cada cuatro años

5) El inmigrante es detenido (detener) por el policía en la frontera.

6) La frontera es cerrado (cerrar) por la policía.

Also, I keep getting this one question wrong. I have to use either indicative or subjunctive of the verb in parenthesis.

1) Orlando vio cómo un grupo de personas desembarque (desembarcar) del barco.

Thank You for your feedback.
